Mengenal Asal Usul Suku Baduy Banten

Berbagai kelompok suku dan etnis mewarnai keragaman yang ada di Indonesia, diantaranya  adalah Suku Baduy. Suku Baduy merupakan penduduk asli yang hidup di Pegunungan Kendeng, Desa Kanekes, Kecamatan Leuwidamar, Kabupaten Lebak, Provinsi Banten. Nama Baduy merupakan sebutan yang diberikan oleh penduduk luar kepada kelompok masyarakat tersebut.

Dilansir dari laman Kemendikbud, nama Baduy merupakan sebutan yang diberikan oleh penduduk luar kepada kelompok masyarakat tersebut. Pendapat pertama munculnya nama baduy berasal dari sebutan para peneliti dari Belanda yang mengamati kemiripan mereka dengan kelompok Arab Badawi di Timur Tengah yang merupakan masyarakat dengan cara hidup berpindah-pindah (nomaden).

Pendapat lain adalah nama Baduy muncul oleh sebab adanya Sungai Baduy dan Gunung Baduy yang ada di bagian utara dari wilayah tersebut. Sementara itu orang Baduy malah lebih suka menyebut dirinya sebagai urang Kanekes atau orang Kanekes sesuai dengan nama wilayah dan tempat yang mereka tinggali.

Mengenal Asal Usul Suku Baduy Banten, Dilansir dari laman Kemendikbud, sejarah suku Baduy Dalam berasal dari Batara Cikal, yaitu salah satu dari tujuh dewa yang diturunkan ke bumi. Batara Cikal sendiri memiliki peran untuk mengatur keseimbangan yang ada di bumi. Versi tersebut mirip dengan cerita diturunkannya Nabi Adam ke bumi. Suku Baduy pun percaya bahwa mereka adalah keturunan Nabi Adam. Adapun para ahli sejarah memiliki pendapat sendiri berdasar pada temuan prasasti sejarah, catatan para pelaut dari Portugis dan Tiongkok yang dihubungkan dengan cerita rakyat tentang Tatar Sunda.

Pada versi yang diungkap ahli sejarah, masyarakat baduy (kanekes) memiliki kaitan dengan Kerajaan Pajajaran pada sekitar di abad ke-16 di mana kesultanan Banten belum berdiri. Dengan wilayah yang strategis, Pangeran Pucuk memerintahkan pasukan prajurit pilihan untuk menjaga kelestarian Gunung Kendeng-Sungai Ciujung. Versi ketiga diungkap Van Tricht yang berkunjung ke Baduy di tahun 1982 yang tidak mengakui kedua pendapat diatas. Menurut Van Tricht, masyarakat Baduy sudah ada sejak lama disana dan merupakan masyarakat asli dan sangat ketat mempertahankan kebudayaan nenek moyang mereka.

Pendapat Van tricht sejalan dengan pendapat Danasasmita dan Djatisunda (1986:4-5) yang mana menurut dua ahli ini pada masa lalu ada seorang raja yang berkuasa di wilayah sekitar Baduy bernama Rakeyan Darmasiska. Sang raja ini memerintahkan masyarakat Baduy untuk memelihara Kabuyutan (tempat pemujaan nenek moyang) dan menjadikan kawasan tersebut sebagai Mandala atau kawasan suci.

Sementara para perempuan Baduy memiliki keahlian menenun dengan tenun halus untuk pakaian dan tenun kasar untuk ikat kepala serta ikat pinggang. Untuk membawa peralatan sehari-hari, Suku Baduy juga membuat tas yang terbuat dari kulit pohon terep yang bernama koja atau jarog. Dalam tatanan masyarakatnya, pemimpin Suku Baduy disebut Pu’un, asisten pemimpin Suku Baduy disebut Jaro, dan pemimpin adat disebut Kejeroan. Selain itu, masyarakat Suku Baduy sendiri dikenal memiliki kepercayaan Sunda Wiwitan. Tempat sembahyang umat Sunda Wiwitan adalah pamunjungan atau kabuyutan, yaitu tempat punden berundak yang biasanya terletak di atas bukit.

Suku Baduy terkenal memiliki berbagai tradisi, yang di antaranya cukup khas dan terkenal akan keunikannya. Berikut adalah beberapa diantaranya.

  1. Gemar Berjalan Kaki

Masyarakat Suku Baduy dikenal orang yang sangat gemar berjalan dengan kaki telanjang. Mereka akan berjalan kaki kemanapun walau jarak yang ditempuh cukup lumayan jauh tanpa menggunakan alas kaki. Tidak mengenakan alas kaki dan tidak memakai kendaraan sebagai alat transportasi merupakan prinsip hidup Suku Baduy untuk menjaga keselarasan dengan alam.

   2. Sistem Kekerabatan Berdasar Wilayah

Dalam masyarakat Baduy terdapat sistem kekerabatan yang menitik beratkan pada wilayah tempat tinggal. Hubungan kekerabatan bisa dilihat dari tiga sisi yaitu Kampung Tangtu, Kampung Panamping, dan Pajaroan. Dalam hal ini, seluruh wilayah Desa Baduy adalah “Tangtu Teulu Jaro Tujuh” yang berarti seluruh penduduk di wilayah Kanekes Baduy merupakan satu kerabat yang berasal dari satu nenek moyang. Adapun perbedaannya ada padai generasi antara tua dan muda, di mana orang Cikeusik dianggap yang tertua, Cikertawana yang menengah, dan Cibeo yang termuda.

3. Sistem Kekerabatan Merujuk Nama Ibu

Merujuk Nama Ibu Masyarakat Baduy juga memiliki keunikan nama dengan mengambil suku kata awal orang tuanya. Anak perempuan biasanya akan mengambil dari nama ayahnya, sedangkan anak laki-laki dari ibunya. Sebagai contoh, apabila seorang ibu bernama Arsunah maka nama anak laki-lakinya adalah Ardi atau Arsani. Namun untuk cara panggilan masyarakat Baduy justru menggunakan panggilan dengan nama anak. Sebagai contoh, seorang ayah yang memiliki anak laki-lakinya bernama Asep maka ia akan dipanggil Ayah Asep padahal nama aslinya adalah Ujang. Karena panggilan ini terus menerus digunakan, tak jarang banyak orang tua kemudian lupa dengan nama aslinya sendiri.
