Kontingen Propinsi Jawa Barat berhasil menjadi pemimpin perolehan medali sementara Pekan Olahraga Pelajar Nasional (Popnas) XVI di Palembang, Provinsi Sumsel, Senin (28/8/2023) sampai pukul 18:12:54.
Peringkat kesatu sementara kontingen Jawa Barat dengan mendapatkan 6 medali emas, 2 medali perak, 3 medali perunggu. Di bawah satu tingkat ada kontingen Jawa Timur dengan mendapatkan 4 medali emas, 2 medali perak, dan 1 medali perunggu.
Di peringkat selanjutnya yaitu ketiga ada kontingen Propinsi DKI Jakarta dengan mengantongi 2 medali emas, 3 medali perak, dan 5 medali perunggu.
Peringkat ke empat di raih oleh Propinsi Kalimantan Barat dengan mengantongi 2 medali emas. Peringkat selanjutnya yaitu kelima ditempati Propinsi Banten dengan perolehan 1 medali emas, dan 4 medali perak.
Kontingen dari Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta berada di peringkat ketujuh dengan mendapatkan perolehan 1 medali emas.
Selanjutnya kontingen Propinsi Lampung berada di peringkat kedelapan dengan mendapatkan perolehan 1 medali perak dan 2 perunggu.
Kontingen Propinsi Jawa Tengah sementara berada di peringkat kesembilan yang juga mendapatkan 1 medali perak dan 2 medali perunggu. Kontingen dari Propinsi Jambi berada di peringkat kesepuluh dengan perolehan 1 medali perak.
Sementara itu untuk Kontingen tuan rumah Sumatera Selatan yang memiliki kekuatan 462 atlit ditargetkan bakal meraih peringkat 10 pada Pekan Olahraga Pelajar Nasional (Popnas) XVI yang berlangsung 26 Agustus hingga 4 September 2023 di Palembang, Sumatra selatan.
“Yang jelas kemarin saya serah terima kontingen harapan kita bisa masuk dari peringkat 26 pada Popnas XV ke 10 besar pada Popnas XVI 2023 di Sumsel ini,” ungkap Ketua Kontingen Sumsel Popnas VI, Ir Basyaruddin Ahmad MSc.
Untuk memberikan semangat kepada pasukan kontingen Bumi Sriwijaya ini, Basyar yang sehari-harinya bertugas menjabat sebagai Kepala Dinas Perumahan dan kawasan permukiman (Perkim) Sumsel menjanjikan reward atau hadiah bagi atlet Sumsel yang berprestasi pada nantinya.
“Kita bisa kasih semangat mereka untuk berjuang masuk di peringkat 10 besar minimal dan tentunya akan ada reward nantinya bagi yang berprestasi didistribusikan secara proporsional,” kata Basyar.
Ia mengatakan hari ini gelaran Popnas XVI baru mulai. Atlet yang belum bertanding tetap berada di Asrama Haji, sedangkan yang akan bertanding diantar ke Jakabaring Sport City maupun ke lokasi-lokasi tempat pertandingan.
