BMKG melaporkan telah terjadi gempa tektonik berkekuatan M6,2 di wilayah Blitar Propinsi Jawa Timur dan sekitarnya sekitar pukul 19.09 WIB hari ini Jumat tanggal 21 Mei 2021. Dari kabar pendahuluan BMKG menunjukkan bahwa gempa bumi ini berkekuatan M=6,2 dsan kemudian dilakukan pemutakhiran sehingga menjadi M=5,9.
Episenter gempa bumi berada pada titik koordinat 8,63 LS dan 112,34 BT , atau lebih tepatnya terletak di laut pada jarak 57 km arah Tenggara Kabupaten Blitar Jawa Timur di kedalaman 110 kilometer,” menurut Kepala Pusat Gempa bumi dan Tsunami BMKG, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno, dalam keterangannya pada hari ini jumat (21/5).
Dengan melihat lokasi episenter dan kedalaman hiposenternya, gempa bumi yang terjadi merupakan jenis gempa bumi menengah akibat subduksi Lempeng Indo-Australia yang menunjam lempeng Eurasia. “dari Hasil analisis BMKG menunjukan bahwa gempa bumi yang terjadi ini mempunyai mekanisme sesar naik kombinasi geser ( oblique thrust fault ),” menurutnya. guncangan gempa bumi ini dirasakan di Blitar dengan intensitas V MMI (Getaran dirasakan oleh hampir semua penduduk, orang banyak terbangun, gerabah banyak yang pecah, barang-barang terpelanting, tiang-tiang dan barang besar tampak bergoyang, bandul lonceng dapat berhenti) di Karangkates, Sawahan, Ngajuk, Lumajang, Tulungagung, Malang dengan intensitas IV MMI ( Dirasakan oleh orang banyak dalam rumah ) di Madiun, Banyuwangi, Pasuruan, Ponorogo, Mataram, Trenggalek, Pacitan, Bantul, Sleman, Kulonprogo, Pacitan, Kuta, Denpasar, Gianyar, Lombok Barat, Ngawi, Tabanan, Jembrana dengan intensitas III MMI ( Getaran dirasakan nyata dalam rumah. Terasa getaran seakan-akan truk berlalu ) di Mojokerto, Sidoarjo, Kediri, Magelang, Cilacap, Pasuruan, Wonogiri, Klaten, Lombok Tengah, Surabaya, Purworejo, Karangasem dengan intensitas II MMI ( Getaran dirasakan oleh beberapa orang, benda-benda ringan yang digantung bergoyang ).
Samapi sekarang telah ada laporan dan dampak kerusakan yang terjadi akibat gempa bumi tersebut. Tapi, berdasarkan data sementara yang saat ini tercatat terdapat kerusakan ringan dibeberapa bangunan dan fasilitas umum serta rumah warga. Sampai jam 20.00 WIB, Hasil monitoring BMKG menunjukkan adanya aktivitas gempa bumi susulan sebanyak 2 kali atau after shock dengan magnitudo 3,1 dan 2,9. Menurut ketua BMKG dalam himbauanya masyarakat supaya tenang dan tidak terpengaruh dengan isu Hoak yang tidak dapat dipertanggung jawabkan keabsahanya. Hindari bangunan yang retak atau rusak akibat gempa. “Periksa dan pastikan bangunan tempat tinggal anda cukup tahan gempa, atau pun tidak ada kerusakan yang di akibatkan getaran gempa yg membahayakan kestabilan bangunan, sebelum semua kembali ke dalam rumah,” menurutnya.
